How To Become a Successful Entrepreneur in Today’s World?

The Key Steps to Becoming Successful in Today's Society.

Learn how you can start living successfully as an entrepreneur. Before you start your journey, let's first define "entrepreneur," and examine some of the characteristics of an entrepreneur in today's world. The definition of "entrepreneur" is a person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture. What are some of the typical characteristics that make up an entrepreneur in today’s world?
  • Entrepreneurs have passion for what they do in life.

  • Entrepreneurs express a great amount of enthusiasm in their line of work.

  • Entrepreneurs are goal-oriented in their quest to reach their desired outcomes.

  • Entrepreneurs have a creative imagination when it comes to their ideas in business.

  • Entrepreneurs have a positive attitude when it comes to building their business and business relationships.

  • Entrepreneurs are very quick decision-makers in their business endeavors and ideas.

These are some of the amazing characteristics of an entrepreneur.

An entrepreneur chooses not to sit back and take what life deals him; he attacks life head on, takes charge of his own life, and has a persistent determination to create his own path in life. In a book called “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, Mr. Hill said that “an educated person is not necessarily a person with any specialized knowledge, but an educated person is one who has so developed the higher faculties of their mind that they can acquire anything they want without violating the rights of others.” Do you know what the higher faculties of your mind are? The higher faculties of your mind are perception, reason, memory, will, intuition and imagination. Many wealthy entrepreneurs today understand these higher faculties; you are going to be introduced to a couple of these higher faculties in the following steps.

After applying the steps below, you will have a good understanding of the entrepreneur personality test. The entrepreneur personality test is a test for you to discover the mindset you have now, compared to the new entrepreneurial mindset that you will be creating. Also, your new entrepreneurial mindset will help you to understand the importance of a network of business opportunities. It is important for you to start networking with other like-minded individuals to help assist you in accomplishing your business goals. Most of the wealthy entrepreneurs today are living successfully due to the many benefits of having a small business as an entrepreneur that’s home-based in the state they live in now. So let’s go into the key steps of what it takes to become successful.

1.Create your new entrepreneurial mindset. Before you can become successful, you have to create a new mindset to achieve the things you want in your life. Examine your current mindset, and how that way of thinking has gotten you to where you're at right now. Be honest with yourself when looking over your current results, because this will give you an accurate measure of the choices that you have made over the years. Only then will you begin to see for yourself that it is time for you to work on your new mindset in order to start living the life you want to experience, regardless of your current circumstances. Once your new entrepreneurial mindset is in motion, you will start making very creative choices to move you faster to your desired goals. Find three to four successful entrepreneurs that have the lifestyle that you want, and ask them if you can interview them individually to understand the reasons why they are so successful at what they do in their current business as an entrepreneur. While you are listening to them, take notes, examine what they say to you about themselves and their success, and grasp what type of mindset they have now in their lives. This will propel your own success in so many different ways because you will be able to apply what you have learned to your own mindset.

Apply personal development in your daily life starting today. For example, read good self-help books like the one mentioned at the end of this article. Listen to self-improvement tapes, CDs, and as an extra bonus, attend a least one personal development seminar a year to help grow, maintain and keep your new entrepreneur mindset growing everyday. Your level of awareness will increase greatly with the new mindset that you are creating to go after the things you want in your life. Having an open mind as an entrepreneur will also help you make better decisions quickly, and become more creative.

2.Get out three blank sheets of white paper and a pen or pencil. Take out three blank sheets of white paper and a pen or pencil. You are going to write down your new mindset as an entrepreneur on your sheets of paper. Writing down what you want (and what you are going to achieve as an entrepreneur) is a very powerful activity that you are making a habit of now. Taking out your sheets of paper right now is a serious gesture that you are making to let your subconscious mind know you are a person of action. This step will help propel you on your new journey, the journey of taking the necessary steps needed to achieve your desired goals. These three blank sheets of paper represent your future. As an entrepreneur with a new mindset you can paint any picture you want to on the three sheets of paper, regardless of your current circumstances.

3.Write down all of your new ideas as an entrepreneur on the first sheet of paper. Label the first blank sheet of paper you have as number one. You have been spending some time changing the way you think, and creating a new entrepreneur mindset: Start writing down all of the new ideas that you have as an entrepreneur now. The ideas that you are writing down now are the ones that you have been thinking about in your mind that you want to create and achieve in your physical presence now. For example, if you have a burning desire in your heart to start your own daycare center, restaurant, hotel, or create a product for people to buy, then write down all of your ideas in every detail. Write down how big the daycare center is going to be, where it is going to be located, what color the building is going to be, how many children you will allow to be kept in your daycare, how many people you will staff, what type of services you will provide to the parents and children coming to the daycare. This is a perfect example of how you can start writing down all of your ideas as an entrepreneur on the sheet of paper now.

4.Write your short-, middle- and long-term goals down on the second sheet of paper. A short-term goal is something you want to achieve in one day, one week or one month. A middle-term goal is something you want to achieve in ninety days to six months. A long-term goal is something you want to achieve in one year or more. Write down what you want to achieve as an entrepreneur on the second blank sheet of paper. List them in the categories stated above as short-, middle- and long-term goals. At the top of the paper, you can have your short-term goals, in the middle section of the paper, you can have your middle-term goals, and at the bottom of the paper you can have your long-term goals (if necessary use the back side of the sheet of paper). Be creative when writing down your goals because this is your life that you will be experiencing in the near future. This is one of the biggest reasons why 1% of our population is earning around 96% of all the money that’s being earned in our world today. They set goals, and they keep at them until they have seen them through into their physical manifestation.

5.Write down fifty things you want to experience in your life now on the third sheet of paper. Write down fifty things that you want to experience in your life now on the third blank sheet of paper. You can start really having some fun in this step by writing down fifty things that you want right now regardless of your current bank account, job, business or relationships in your life now. Those fifty things that you write down will help you to understand that you can have whatever you want in your life as an entrepreneur. However, you have to first know what you want in detail. For example, you might want a brand new house in the city that you are currently living in. If you write down that you want a brand new house, however, that is not what you really want, and it is not in enough detail for you to realize that you can have what you want now. If you write down that you want a brand new two-story house that has five bedrooms, and four bathrooms with a whirlpool Jacuzzi in the master bedroom upstairs, and brown hardwood floors all throughout the downstairs of the house, now you are really writing about wanting that house! You can see it clearly in your mind, and you will surely take the necessary actions when the time comes to buy that home (without violating the rights of others in achieving your goal). This will surely move you in the direction of taking the steps necessary to meet your goals. Many wealthy entrepreneurs get what they want every time because they write it down on paper first; then, they go after it in their daily life.

6.Integrate personal development into your daily lifestyle. Start applying personal development everyday in your daily life. With the new mindset you have now, you should continue to feed your mind everyday with personal development. For instance, you can take out three minutes in a day and meditate on goals or just clear your mind of everything for the moment. Read a good book on personal growth, listen to meditation music, have a conversation with a positive person and people or obtain a personal development program to help keep your mind on track in accomplishing your goals. The meaning of personal development can be found in the term "self-help," which means any practice whereby an individual or a group attempts self-guided improvement—economically, intellectually or emotionally. So you see this is some great stuff to add as a part of your daily life and it will certainly help move you in the right direction. Successful entrepreneurs apply personal development in their daily lives everyday. They work ninety percent on themselves, and ten percent on their businesses. So with that in mind, personal development is a must to achieve success as an entrepreneur.

7.Give yourself a command and follow it. Now that you have been thinking and writing about your goals, the things you want, and your ideas as an entrepreneur, give yourself a command on what you want to achieve first as an entrepreneur, and follow it until you see it through to the finish. Then you can move on to something else that you want to focus on and achieve. You will continue the same process over and over--whatever you decide you want to achieve, give yourself a command and follow it until it is achieved.

8.Keep your new mindset positive by hanging around like-minded individuals. Hang around more like-minded individuals daily, monthly and yearly to keep a positive mindset. Hanging around individuals that have the same entrepreneurial concepts that you do will keep your mindset in a positive state, and on the right track to achieve your goals. You can hang around like-minded individuals by either listening to a group of individuals on the phone via conference calls, attending seminars, being part of an online forum of positive people like yourself, and keeping in contact with the positive like-minded people you have formed a relationship with on your journey in achieving your goals. The more positive like-minded people you associate with regularly, the more it will certainly keep moving you in the direction of becoming successful as an entrepreneur.

9.Take seven minutes out of everyday to visualize the end result of your goal in your mind. Take seven minutes out of your day to visualize the end result of your goal that you have decided to achieve within a specific time frame (as mentioned in step number three). For example, if you decided to own your own daycare center, then you could spend seven minutes in the day visualizing about every aspect of your daycare center as if you currently owned it in the present moment. You can also start off visualizing everything that you wrote about the daycare center in step number three. Then you can work your way to the end result of having the daycare center in your possession now. For instance, visualize the amounts of checks that you are receiving from your customers now that you have the daycare center, visualize different cars parked at your daycare center parking lot, visualize the joint ventures that you have created with other daycare center owners in your area in providing better services in your city. Before successful entrepreneurs became successful, they first visualized the end result of their goal, and continued to dwell on that end result a few minutes of everyday until it became a part of their experience in life.

10.Put four positive affirmation statements on a sticky note around your home, office, and work area in times when you need to be encouraged as you move forward with your new idea. Place your affirmation statements in a specific area in your home, office, and work area to help continue your encouragement in accomplishing your new ideas. Affirmations should always be written as positive statements in the present tense. Placing four affirmation statements on a sticky note around an area that you visit most often will further your actions toward your goal because your affirmations will began to work as supportive thoughts, and a placeholder for a more positive mindset in your daily life. Your affirmation statements should always be written in present tense such as, "I own a daycare center in Chicago, Illinois," or you can write, "I am a daycare center owner in Chicago, Illinois." Keep your affirmation statements short, positive, and to the point of what it is that you want to see manifested as an entrepreneur in your life now. You will definitely be putting yourself in the 1% bracket of our population that gets everything they want out of life.

11.Sign your name to the sheets of papers with your new ideas, goals, and the things you want in your life as an entrepreneur. Put your signature on the end of the sheets of paper where you have written down all of your new ideas, goals and the things you want to experience in your life as an entrepreneur. By doing this step, it will promote a sense of seriousness within yourself, that you mean business in accomplishing your ideas, goals and what you want. You also will feel that you have already completed your aspirations by signing your documents of personal achievement. Your signature represents a decided heart and a new mindset. Eric Rodriguez

12.Make a decision to yourself that you will never give up on your new ideas and goals until you see them manifest in your life. Do yourself a huge favor right now and go ahead make the decision to never give up on your new ideas, and goals until you see them manifested in your life as an entrepreneur. Many unsuccessful entrepreneurs in today’s society give up on their goals and ideas at the first sign of temporary defeat. There is no such thing as failure, only temporary defeat in life, period. When a successful entrepreneur has a temporary defeat, he remains calm, relaxed, and confident in his quest to achieve his goal because he understands that every temporary defeat is backed by a great or equal number of successes in his life. That’s why many successful entrepreneurs always get what they want in life; they never give up on what they want.

13.Take action on your new ideas and goals as an entrepreneur. You have been taking action all throughout this article in the steps listed above, so now it is time for you to take the necessary action to make it happen. This step is the meat and potatoes or the salad and yogurt (if you are watching what you eat, you get the picture). Take action everyday on your new ideas and goals as an entrepreneur. You deserve the best that life has to offer, so the only gap between knowing what to do and doing it, is action. Take action everyday regardless of your current circumstances in life. As an entrepreneur with a new mindset, you are the leader, and it's time for you to start living successfully as an entrepreneur in today’s world.
The steps above will keep you getting more of want you want and less of want you don’t want in your life. They have been in use for years by many of the wealthiest entrepreneurs on this planet. You now have in your hands a blueprint to your success in whatever you want to create.

I personally use these steps in my own life everyday, which has brought me an abundance of opportunities, money and phenomenal business relationships that I am very grateful for everyday in my life. So here is to your success! Remember there is no such thing as problems, only opportunities in life. Embrace every opportunity that is in harmony with what your goals and ideas are in life, and you surely will begin living successfully as an entrepreneur in today’s world.

7 Essential Steps to Starting Your Own Business

Step 1: Let's begin...

The beginning is a good place to start I think... This may sound silly, but many neglect the importance of the start, and I think that's perhaps why 86% of startup businesses fail in the first year... Every year, almost 500,000 people take the plunge and start their own business and only 60,000 make it. My aim is to help you be in that 60,000. I want you to succeed so that you can tell others about me and what I have to offer through my company - That's my success!

So let's begin... You probably wouldn't turn up at an airport without first of all preparing where it is you want to go, working out the best journey and booking the right ticket, just as you wouldn't start a business without knowing what that business really is.

So the first thing I want you to do is put pen to paper and answer the following questions. These questions are designed to quiz your unconscious mind and the answers can be useful when you are asked "What is your business anyway?":

1. What specifically is your business?
2. Who specifically is your business for?
3. What products and services are you going to offer?
4. What evidence do you have to show that people need & want this?
5. Who are your competitors?
6. What is the price?
7. What is your first target?
8. Where are you now in relation to achieving this target?
9. When will you have achieved this target?
10. What will this business allow you to do?
11. What resources are needed?
12. Is your business ecological for you, your family and the world?

Step 2: The Disney Pattern...

Walt Disney was an American inspiration, not only for his film productions and animations, but also for his vision and entrepreneurialism. Disney had a great all-purpose strategy for creative thinking and I have found it amazingly effective when planning any new business. I like to dream of big things when it comes to my businesses, and sometimes this can result in me missing the small details that could throw my plans into turmoil. The following Disney strategy was modelled by Robert Dilts, a popular NLP trainer in America, and has saved me from dreaming big and neglecting reality. Go through the following steps by yourself or with a friend before you move on to the next stage of your business preparation.

Think of your potential business. The Disney strategy works well for any situation where you need to come up with a specific plan.

Choose 3 different spaces on the floor for you to move to and give each space one of the following labels:

Space 1: The Dreamer
Space 2: The Realist
Space 3: The Critic

Start by standing in the Dreamer position.
This is where you create possibilities. Here you are a visionary, seeing the big picture. Be creative without restraint. The dreamer position mostly uses the visual representation system. Ask yourself, 'What do I want?' 'What would it look like?' Write down your thoughts.

Shake those thoughts off by shaking your body or jumping up and down.

Then, move into the Realist position.
This is where you organise your plans, evaluate what is realistically possible, think constructively and devise a step-by-step action plan. The realist position mostly uses the kinesthetic (feelings) representation system. Ask yourself 'What will I do to make these plans a reality?', 'How will it feel?'

Shake those thoughts off by shaking your body or jumping up and down.

Finally, move to the Critic position.
This is the position where you test your plan. You are looking for problems, difficulties and unintended consequences. Think of what could go wrong, what is missing and what the payoffs will be. The critic position mostly uses the auditory representation system or your own internal dialogue. Ask yourself "What could go wrong?"

Step 3: Doing the necessaries

You should now have a list of answers to my questions, and have three different view points on your business from the Disney pattern. With these in place, I think you should be ready to do one of two things:

Go through the final checks below, then if you are sure you want to start your own business, carry on to the next stage.

or,

Go back to your day job. It's better to know now whether your business is going to fulfil your dreams or not. Ploughing in lot's of money into a business that will never succeed is a fools game. If you have doubts at this stage, call us. We are here to help and will offer our honest advice - running your own business isn't an easy option and sometimes it's just not worth it. Make sure at this point that you have the drive, determination and the right mindset to take the plunge. Once you do, there's no going back - the rewards are too great...

The necessaries:
Take half an hour to visit Companies House (type this into Google) and have a good look around. There are a number of ways to set up a company. You can set up as a 'sole trader', form a 'partnership', open a 'limited company' or even become a 'Franchisee'. We offer advice to our members, or you can call Companies House and they will be able to help.

Find the right Accountant. Again, we offer accountancy services through our partner companies to our members, or you can check out icaew (type this into Google) to find a list of Chartered Accountants. My advice would be to get a good accountant and by good, I don't necessarily mean the most expensive, but a good accountant should be able to save you more money on expenses and tax than you pay to them. They will also help you in running an ethical business and set you on your path to business enlightenment.

If you are looking for Finance. Visit the Princes Trust. They also offer advice and support for young people looking to create business.

Check out the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). They have over 185,000 members and can help with all sorts of contracts, legal issues, banking arrangements etc.

The government also runs a Business Link in England and the equivalent in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. They have a great website with lots of resources (type this into Google)

For a free intellectual property resources centre visit own-it. (type this into Google)

For free legal guidance and help visit freelawyer (type this into Google) or for Internet law in UK visit weblaw (type this into Google)

If you have made it to this page, I'm guessing you're up for the challenge of creating business for yourself... You have chosen a challenging path, but one that is so rewarding and freeing too. I've been in business since I was 9 years old, and it's all I have ever wanted to do. I tried working for others, but to be honest, I wasn't very good at it, and since creating businesses in my 20's & 30's, I'll never go back to working for someone else. The rewards, both financially and for my lifestyle are far too great.

So now that we have our business in mind, what is it going to be called?

Step 4: Creating your name...

Most new business owners spend a great deal of time thinking of catchy names for their businesses. I remember hearing about Greg Steven's who set up his business selling sofas and furniture. He was a huge Elvis fan and called himself 'The King'. After some debate, he decided to call himself 'The Sofa King'. On his vans he had 'We are Sofa King Great' printed. Read out-loud, the catch phrase can raise some eyebrows but it manages to stick in your memory - and that's what branding is all about...

So I'm going to make this chapter easy for you... Unless you are prepared to go as far as Greg to attract your customers, I recommend calling your company name 'You'... You are your business and your personal branding lets you control how other people perceive you. That's far more powerful than calling yourself 'Living Inspiration' or 'The Creative Life Company' like everyone else in business. My only exception to this rule is if you are setting up a membership organisation. You are usually selling a collection of people and benefits through a membership organisation. Outside of this though, your clients will choose you, not because you have a cool business card or snazzy office, but because something about you engenders trust and makes them decide to do business with you. People buy from people, not businesses... Personal branding is without doubt the most powerful way to get your name out there and it won't cost you anywhere near as much as trying to market a large company name. Start branding and marketing you, not a company you work for. For further details, I can really recommend a book by a guy called 'Peter Montoya' - It's called 'The Brand Called You'.

Step 5: Know who you are...

The Dalai Lama said that "Self-knowledge is a vital stage on the path towards enlightenment..."
I think knowing who you are is essential for your business. People buy from people and every projection you put out there in relation to your business will be received by others. Make sure you are the model of excellence you want in your business.

The following model helps me on my path to learning about myself. I think it's also helpful when thinking about your business. It has been created by Robert Dilts from the work done by Gregory Bateson. I refer to this model on a daily basis to make sure I am aligned on each level both in business and my personal life. To get closer to becoming an Enlightened Entrepreneur, you should have alignment and congruency on each of the levels starting with your environment...

Level 1: Your Environment
Level 2: Your Behaviour
Level 3: Your Skills & Capabilities
Level 4: Your Values & Beliefs
Level 5: Your Identity
Level 6: Your purpose & connection to the planet

As you get down the levels, you get closer to finding who you really are and at the very end, beyond who you are, you find your purpose in life and what connection you have to the world.

An all important question to ask yourself before you go into business is: Who am I when the lights are off?
If your answer is different to when the lights are on, or when you are selling, when you are with your family, when you are with friends or when you are alone, then you will have some misalignment on one of the different levels.

Check in with each level and ask yourself the following questions:
Environment: The where & when. Are you in the right place? Is this the right time? Who else is involved and effected by your business?

Behaviour: The what. What do you do? What thoughts and actions do you have in relation to your business plans? If you saw your behaviours from the outside, would they be aligned to the behaviours you would like to see from someone running your business?

Skills & Capabilities: The how. What skills do you have and need? How will you achieve your dreams? How will you move from employee to entrepreneur?

Beliefs & values: The why. Why is this business important to you? What do you believe about yourself? What do you value about this business? Why bother?

Identity: The who. Who are you? Who arn't you? Who is your business? Who do you want to be?

Purpose: Beyond Identity. What is your purpose on this planet? What is beyond you and your business? What is your highest intention of building this business?

If you have got this far, you should feel confident in what you are offering, and once you have registered your name, found your accountant and completed all of the logistical tasks associated to your business, you are all ready to start. The next stage is to work out who you are selling your products & services too. If you know what you're selling and who too, you are 90% of the way there...

Step 6: Finding you Niche

If you don't find a niche market the news is not good for your business. In fact, I would go as far as to say "find a niche within a niche". A niche market is composed of individuals and businesses that have similar interests and needs, which can be readily identified and that can be easily targeted and reached.

Finding a niche for your business means finding a great product or service for a highly targeted audience.
Let's imagine that you are an accountant (and you might be...). If you were interested in business coaching and went onto the internet to find a service provider, would you book with;
1. A fully qualified coach?
2. A fully qualified coach who specialises in helping accountants?

I think I've made my point. Most businesses don't niche small enough and try to be the 'jack of all trades'. I promise you, this strategy does not work.

By niching, and then niching again, you have the following advantages over your competition:
• You become specialised in your area and are therefore seen as 'The Expert' in what you do.
• The tighter the niche, the easier it is to find your clients - you know exactly who they are and therefore where they hang out.
• You will more than halve your marketing spend because you can target your marketing to specific campaigns in specific publications/websites etc.
• You will halve your competition
• You know exactly who to survey to find out exactly what they want before you produce any product or service.

Always ask your customers what they want before you produce any product or service. Many businesses create products and services that they think their clients want, without ever actually asking the client. Find out what your clients want, then produce it - it's a sure way to make more money.

Step 7: Creating your Steve...

Once you have installed your phone lines and have handed out some business cards, you are likely to receive calls from your local newspapers begging you to advertise with them. I have nothing against advertising in newspapers when it's done properly, but they usually promote their advertising by telling you that they have thousands of readers who will see your advert. The problem often is - those readers aren't interested in your product. I made the mistake of offering a free CD on NLP in the 'Express' newspaper (they had a special promotion on...). The Express goes out to hundreds of thousands of people and I worked out what 1% was and thought this was my likely take-up. I spent the whole day on the phone to people who had no idea what NLP is and asked if I could "just send the CD anyway because I collect free CDs from newspapers"... I wasted hundreds of pounds sending CDs out to clients who will never buy from me, not to mention the cost of my time.

The trick to selling anything is knowing who you are selling to and where they hang out. It also helps if they are actually wanting your product in the first place.

For every business I run now, I design my ideal client. This client is my market - the person I only need to whisper my product to and they will buy it. This means I know who they are, where they shop, what they read, even what they eat...

Let me introduce you to Steve, my ideal client for my business - perhaps he is familiar...
Steve is 30 to 45, married with 2 kids. He earns 35K to 45K and is fed up with his current work situation. He enjoys the company of his work colleages but the job doesn't satisfy him anymore. He wants to work with his partner and has often thought about setting up his own business - perhaps his partner can join him later. He likes to holiday every year and enjoys watching Channel 4, E4 and BBC news. He likes reading magazines including GQ, Mens Health and the occasional book on business and personal development. Steve enjoys surfing the web for personal development, watched YouTube and TED.com. He likes to shop in Sainsburys and occasionally, when he's feeling flush, in Marks and Spencer. Somewhere inside Steve, he believes he can make it on his own and if the right opportunity comes along, he's got the guts to do it...

I feel like I know Steve like my best friend. Steve also has a female version 'Stevetta' and I target my writing, advertising, products and in fact my whole business to meet Steve and Stevetta's needs...

Now not every client is Steve or Stevetta. Some don't match their profile at all and that's OK. I don't turn people away if they don't behave like Steve, but it makes it so easy for me to know where to find my clients and focuses my mind on what I can offer to him...

Once you have your Steve, or Stevetta (or whatever you decide to call them), you know who you are marketing & selling too, you know where to find them. You can begin to create your websites, marketing and even your business cards as if you are producing them for your Steve or Stevetta. By now you should also know who you are in relation to your business, you know what your purpose is on this planet and what your business outcomes are. I think it's time for you now to take the path to becoming a enlightened entrepreneur.

Conclusion
You will now be able to tick off the 7 essential steps to starting your business. I hope this guide has been useful to you. Most businesses never think of these steps and I think that they are so important. You're ahead of your competitors already.

Check off the following list and feel confident in your abilities as a entrepreneur - you are 90% of the way to being successful, the rest we can put down to on the spot learning... Good luck!

Step 1: I am clear about my outcome
Step 2: I passed the Disney test
Step 3: I've done the necessaries
Step 4: I've got my business name
Step 5: I know who I am and what my purpose in life is
Step 6: I've niched, and niched again
Step 7: I've got my Steve

With fast developments in technology and innovations taking place everyday, people hardly take time in discarding old electronic products and gadgets. Be it cell phones, laptops, desktops or anyother electronic item, their life span has shorten drastically and they are discarded pretty soon. So the milion dollar question that comes to my mind is where do these millions of computers, mobile phones and electronic items go, after been discarded.

It comes to this Hi-Tech junkyard based at Roorkee in India. In a country like India where recycling waste is totally an unorganised sector, Rohan Gupta saw a huge opprtunity in organising this activity.

Attero Recycling was founded by Rohan Gupta and Nitin Gupta in the year 2007 with an objective of providing an environmentally friendly solution to the problem of e-waste. Attero Recycling, an integrated end-to-end electronic waste (e-waste) recycling company. At Attero, they look at e-waste not just as waste, but as an important resource that can be made useful instead of shunning it as a social and environmental burden. With their fully automated facility for e-waste recycling at Roorkee, a first of its kind metallurgical process and a close technical collaboration with a leading US company, they have not only handled the complete processing of waste but also provided client friendly solutions like pickup of e-waste from the premises and complete data security.

Their project has been funded by VC firms, NEA-Indo US Venture and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. They have developed the technology for recycling non-reusable plastic as well as their own metallurgical process. Attero conducts regular audits to ensure compliance with the Health Environment and Safety standards. They believe that every contribution can make a difference in reducing the e-burden on society and protect nature from the growing E-Waste menace.

Attero’s plant is equipped to extract 98% of materials such as copper, lead, nickel, zinc, plastic, iron, silver and even gold to an extent. Attero has tied up with LG for a mobile ‘takeback’ campaign with drop boxes at 50 LG centres. The company has collected 300-400 tonnes of e-waste and plans to do about 1,000 tonnes a month initially and reach 3,000 tonnes a month in the next 4-5 years. It has also tied up with corporates such as LG, Perot Systems, KPMG, Visa and Tata DIESL to collect e-waste and in turn plants saplings for free within their campuses for each computer they pick up.

Founders of Attero:

Nitin Gupta graduated with an MBA degree from NYU Stern School of Business and a B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

Rohan Gupta was the co-founder and COO at Cinesprite Pvt. Ltd (a leader in online movie entertainment in India). He has previously worked at blue chip companies like SAP Labs. Rohan graduated with a B.E degree in Chemical engineering from REC Jaipur and is a man with innovative and intelligent strategies, which have the potential to take Attero to newer heights.

Small Business is Worth It.

When you decide that you are tired of working in an office and you are looking for a change, you should look at the fact that small business is worth it. You will find that you will have a plethora of options when it comes to a small business, and this is what is going to make the entire transition exciting and fun. If you already know what it is that you want to do, then you merely have to get it up and going. If you are not sure on what it is that you want to do, then the fun is actually the journey of discovery.

Laying Out The Groundwork

The first thing you are going to do when you decide on what you want to do, is lay out the groundwork for the start of the company. This will bring you to the point where you know what is going to be common practice, and what the purpose of the company really is. Small business is worth it, when you decide that you want to do something that is both challenging and fun at the same time. You will find that starting a small business is something that will give you strength in areas you otherwise did not know you had. This is great for your spirit, and it is great for your wallet if you can manage to succeed. Find what you like and get it running, and then manage to make it work it's that simple.

Invest Your Time

One of the best ways to ensure that the small business that you start is going to be what you want it to be, is to invest your time into it. There are many things that you are going to have to pay attention too, as you are now the boss. This means that basically every aspect of the company is under your control. The fun part is actually making decisions and seeing that they do make sense and they do work. This will give you a sense that small business is worth it, and that you can see success down the road from your endeavor. Good business is prepared for the dips in work, and this is where you will learn to manage your time. This is when you will learn that you need to invest the time to make the company better for the next round of business rush.

Learn From Your Mistakes

It is said that if you do not make mistakes, you do not learn in life. Nothing could be closer to the truth, than with a home business. You will quickly see that small business is worth it, when you actually remind yourself not to do the same thing twice if it failed the first time. This will steer you in a different direction, and this will actually allow you to grow as a business. This could be the most enlightening and fun time of your life, and it is time to take full control.

Small Business Owners - A Rare Breed.

Willingness to Take Risks

You will constantly find yourself having to make decisions about where and how to advertise, which areas to specialise in, when to invest in new equipment, and so on.

Although this constant decision-making can be stressful, it can also be satisfying and enjoyable. Solving problems and making decisions can give you a sense of power and confidence.

Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm is an essential ingredient of every entrepreneur. If you are half-hearted about your new venture you may have difficulty summoning sufficient determination to overcome problems when they arise.

If you are enthusiastic, on the other hand, you will relish the challenges your business presents. What's more, your enthusiasm will rub off onto customers, employees (if you have them) and other people you have to deal with.

Most of us would far rather work with or buy from someone who is enthusiastic and enjoys their work, rather than someone who is permanently depressed about it.

Ambition

Most entrepreneurs have a driving ambition to achieve the best they can for themselves and their loved ones; in addition to money, this may include financial security and a better way of life.

With such ambitions they can cope with any setbacks along the way, because in their mind they have a goal or vision which drives them on.

Ambition and determination together can overcome many obstacles. In business, as in most others aspects of life, if you know what you want and are determined to achieve it, the chances are excellent that you will succeed.

Honesty and Willingness to Give Good Service

Every business depends on a circle of satisfied customers for its continuing survival. If people are pleased with the service they have received from you, they are likely to recommend you to others as well as keep coming back themselves.

By contrast, if you give poor service then, even if they do not complain at the time, they will not return; and rather than recommend you to others, they will warn them off. If you have a good reputation this will ensure that more people keep coming to you.

For this reason, successful entrepreneurs go to great lengths to obtain and keep a good name for themselves.
